Our mission
PureBariatric was created for users navigating the full bariatric journey — pre-op, post-op, and the years that follow — who couldn't find tools that truly understood their needs. Generic calorie apps, one-size-fits-all advice, and scattered resources don't serve the unique demands of bariatric nutrition and lifelong metabolic health.
Everything here is built around the bariatric plate — a widely-used teaching tool that adapts Canada's Food Guide plate to bariatric needs. About half the plate as protein eaten first, proper hydration, supplement compliance, and phased dietary progressions. Real support for a real journey.

Everything else — coaching, guides, recipe books — supports what happens inside the app. It's the tool that closes the gap between your care team's office hours and the rest of your life: the 11pm question about a symptom, the missed protein goal on a bad day, the moment you need an answer and your surgeon's office is closed.
Protein, fluids, supplements, meals, and your current diet stage — tracked against the targets your surgical team actually gave you, not generic macros. The Bariatric Plate view shows at a glance whether today is balanced.
Symptom Check walks you through what you're feeling and gives you safety guidance grounded in your stage of recovery — so you know whether it can wait until morning or needs urgent care. Your Medical ID and emergency contacts are ready to hand to a provider the moment you need them.
Symptom Check offers educational safety guidance only — it is not a diagnosis and does not replace calling your care team or emergency services.
From the founder
For a while, PureBariatric didn't have a face. That was intentional, and for a season it was the right call. But I built this because of my own story, and it's time you knew whose voice you've been reading.
I'm a woman in my 40s who has spent the last several years fighting my body in almost every way a body can be fought — infertility and successful rounds of IVF, a hysterectomy after years of endometriosis, and then perimenopause, which brought a kind of weight resistance I'd never experienced. I know what it feels like to do everything "right" and still not see the scale move — and to wonder if the problem is your willpower when the actual problem is your biology.
Working through my own metabolic health journey — the real, unglamorous kind, with a lot of trial and error — is the reason PureBariatric exists. Not because I wanted to sell a program. Because I wished something like this had existed for me years earlier.
Professionally, I'm a Canadian Registered Nurse (BSN, nursing since 2005). My background spans labour and delivery, surgical services, and bariatric-focused practice — that clinical grounding shapes how I read the research and translate it into plain language. But what you read on this site isn't built on personal practice. Every claim is anchored in published clinical guidelines from Obesity Canada, ASMBS, BOMSS, and the AACE/TOS/ASMBS/OMA/ASA peri-operative guideline, and logged on our methodology page. What I bring on top of the evidence is perspective — I've read the research as a nurse, and I've lived the metabolic complexity as a patient. Both matter, and both belong in the room.
